The European Commission has introduced a new regulation concerning cosmetics legislation, which will result in the prohibition of several ingredients in cosmetics. One of the prohibited substances is the commonly used chelating agent, Pentasodium Pentetate, which has also been used in some Four Reasons products. The sale and use of products containing this ingredient in cosmetics will be prohibited in the European Union starting from December 1, 2023. The other prohibited ingredients do not apply to Four Reasons products.
Which products are affected by this change?
Some of the Four Reasons hair colors, oxids, and curling agents contain or have contained the ingredient Pentasodium Pentetate. In some of these products, this ingredient has already been replaced, and in the remaining products, it will be replaced with a new chelating agent before the legislation takes effect.
Four Reasons Luxima, Four Reasons Oxid and Optima Total Activator 8%
Some shades of Four Reasons Luxima as well as Four Reasons Oxids and Optima Total Activator 8% have contained Pentasodium Pentetate as an ingredient. This ingredient has been replaced in all Luxima shades and oxids and we will no longer supply products containing the prohibited ingredient. Due to the changes, there will be a delivery interruption for Optima Total Activator 8% until the beginning of November.
Four Reasons Multiwave
Four Reasons Multiwave still contains Pentasodium Pentetate, but it will be replaced with a new ingredient before the legislation comes into effect. The change to the new content will take place at the beginning of November, after which we will no longer supply products containing the prohibited ingredient.
How do we replace products containing the prohibited ingredient?
If you or your customers still have unopened Four Reasons products containing Pentasodium Pentetate when the legislation comes into effect, we will replace them with equivalent products.
